Preparation & Care: The Perfect Finishing Touch
Your daughter’s veil is a delicate keepsake. To ensure it drapes beautifully and stays pristine for her special day, follow these simple care and preparation steps.
1. De-Wrinkling Your Veil
Tulle and lace are sensitive to direct heat, so never use a standard clothes iron, as it can melt the delicate fibers.
-
The Steam Method (Recommended): Use a handheld garment steamer on a low setting. Keep the steamer nozzle a few inches away from the fabric and move it steadily to release creases.
-
The Bathroom Trick: If you don’t have a steamer, hang the veil in the bathroom while someone takes a hot shower. The steam from the shower will naturally relax the wrinkles over 15–20 minutes.
-
Cool Down: After steaming, let the veil hang freely for at least an hour to “set” its shape.
2. Storage Before the Big Day
Once the wrinkles are gone, keep them away!
-
Hang it High: Use a clip-style skirt hanger or a padded hanger. To prevent dust, you can cover it loosely with a clean cotton pillowcase (avoid plastic bags, which can trap moisture).
-
Avoid Sunlight: Keep the veil in a cool, dark closet to prevent any yellowing of the white or ivory fabric.
3. On the Day of the Ceremony
-
Hair Products First: Apply all hairspray and styling products before securing the veil. The chemicals in hairspray can sometimes cause tulle to become stiff or even yellow over time.
-
Secure the Comb: For extra security, use two bobby pins crossed in an “X” shape over the teeth of the veil comb once it’s tucked into her hair.
Post-Ceremony Preservation
After the celebration, many families choose to keep the veil as an heirloom. We recommend having it professionally cleaned or simply wrapping it in acid-free tissue paper and storing it in a sturdy keepsake box away from light and moisture.
